Product overview

Estimate PPE and consumables for a mold job. Enter the number of technicians, days on site, and how many coverall suits each tech burns through per day, and get the coverall count, respirator cartridge sets, and glove pairs across all tech-days. It's the quick pass adjusters and remediators use to put a defensible consumables figure on an S520 scope instead of guessing a lump sum.

Everything scales off tech-days: technicians × days on site. Coverall suits are tech-days × the suits-per-tech-per-day rate — the default is 2, since PPE is changed on breaks and after breaching containment. Respirator cartridge sets run one per tech-day, matching a daily cartridge change on a standard mold job. Glove pairs are figured at 4 per tech-day, covering multiple changes across a shift. These are per-tech consumable rates, not equipment; treat the output as a starting quantity and adjust for site conditions and your crew's practice. Verify against IICRC S520 and carrier guidelines.

Vendor insights

Mensuria writes a neutral scope built to survive review — every line item sourced to a photo, anything unprovable held back and flagged for you. It never files the estimate; a licensed adjuster confirms every line and stays the adjuster of record. Mensuria is independent and not affiliated with Verisk or Xactimate; “Xactimate-ready” means the worksheet is organized for Quick Entry.

Common questions

Start from tech-days — technicians times days on site — and apply a per-tech daily rate to each consumable. This calculator uses 2 coverall suits per tech-day, 1 respirator cartridge set per tech-day, and 4 glove pairs per tech-day. So a crew of 3 for 5 days is 15 tech-days: 30 suits, 15 cartridge sets, and 60 glove pairs. Adjust the suits-per-day input if your crew changes out more often. The result gives you a sourced consumables quantity for the estimate.

This tool figures one cartridge set per tech per day, which reflects the common practice of a fresh set at the start of each shift. Cartridges should also be swapped whenever a worker notices breakthrough odor, increased breathing resistance, or damage, per the respiratory protection program on site. Higher-exposure work or long shifts can push the count higher. Use the daily figure as your baseline consumable quantity and note any site-specific change-out schedule that drives it up.

S520 ties PPE to the size and level of the remediation. Typical mold work uses disposable coverall suits, a minimum of a half-face respirator with P100 or HEPA cartridges (full-face for higher hazard), and gloves. This calculator sizes the consumables — suits, cartridge sets, and glove pairs — across the crew and duration. It doesn't set the respiratory protection level; that comes from the remediation plan and your exposure assessment. Confirm the required PPE against S520 and the project scope of work.

Tech-days is technicians multiplied by days on site — a crew of 4 working 3 days is 12 tech-days. It's the base unit for scaling consumables and labor on a mold job, because PPE and daily supplies are spent per worker per day rather than per room. This calculator uses tech-days to drive the suit, cartridge, and glove counts, so a single crew-size and duration entry produces the full consumables line for the estimate.
