Room measurement helper

Dimensions to SF and perimeter.

Product overview

Turn a room's length, width, and height into the quantities most interior line items price against: floor and ceiling square footage, wall square footage, perimeter, and volume. It's the fast takeoff an adjuster does at the doorway — floor SF for carpet or LVP, wall SF for drywall and paint, perimeter for baseboard, volume for equipment sizing. Enter three dimensions and get all five numbers at once, ready to key into a scope without running each area by hand.

Standard rectangular-room geometry. Floor SF is length times width, and ceiling SF matches it. Perimeter is 2 × (length + width). Wall SF is that perimeter times ceiling height — gross wall area, before any deduction for doors and windows. Volume is floor SF times height, in cubic feet, which is what you feed into dehumidifier and air-scrubber sizing. Height defaults to 8 feet if you leave it blank. The numbers assume a rectangular room; for L-shaped or irregular spaces, break the area into rectangles and total the pieces.

Highlights

  • Deterministic — the same inputs give the same result, every time.
  • Built for the trade, sized to feed Xactimate line-item quantities.
  • Free — no login, no card.
  • Works from a phone at the loss.

Vendor insights

Mensuria writes a neutral scope built to survive review — every line item sourced to a photo, anything unprovable held back and flagged for you. It never files the estimate; a licensed adjuster confirms every line and stays the adjuster of record. Mensuria is independent and not affiliated with Verisk or Xactimate; “Xactimate-ready” means the worksheet is organized for Quick Entry.

Delivery method

Mensuria is a web app — nothing to install. You work a claim in the browser and export a room-grouped, Xactimate-ready worksheet (codes, quantities, descriptions) organized for Quick Entry. There is no native .ESX import; you key the reviewed line items into Xactimate and stay in control.

Terms and conditions

Use of Mensuria is subject to our Terms of Service. Your first claim is free with no card; paid plans are billed monthly and cancel anytime.

More from this vendor

  • Field photos and a few measurements in; a defensible, Xactimate-ready scope out — every line item sourced to the photo that supports it.

  • Run an estimate you wrote — or a contractor's — past Mensuria for gaps, missed scope, and the companion line items a loss like this usually carries, before you settle. Free for a limited time, no login.

  • 43 calculators and field references for the numbers you work out on site — drying days, roof squares, depreciation, O&P, flood cut, and more. No login, no claim required.

Common questions

Multiply the room's perimeter by its ceiling height. For a 12 × 14 room at 8 feet, the perimeter is 52 LF, so the gross wall area is 416 SF. This tool returns that figure automatically from your three dimensions. It's gross area — it doesn't subtract doors and windows — so deduct openings as your estimate requires, or leave the gross in when the standard allows painting behind trim.

Perimeter is 2 × (length + width) for a rectangular room — the linear footage that baseboard, base shoe, and wall base line items price against. A 12 × 14 room has a 52 LF perimeter. The tool returns it alongside the area figures. Subtract door openings from the LF where the trim is interrupted, and confirm whether your line item runs base across or stops at each opening.

Use cubic feet — floor square footage times ceiling height. This tool returns volume in CF from your dimensions, which is the input for dehumidifier grain-depression sizing and for air-scrubber air-changes-per-hour calculations. A 12 × 14 room at 8 feet is 1,344 CF. Feed that number into the drying-equipment or negative-air calculators to size units per IICRC guidance for the room.

Break it into rectangles. Split the L into two rectangular sections, run each through the tool, and add the floor and wall areas together. For perimeter, measure the actual outside edge rather than summing the two rectangles' perimeters, since the shared interior line isn't a real wall. Irregular and angled rooms are best measured in pieces this way — the calculator handles clean rectangles, and you total the parts.
